“Fine,” I said.
But Daniel wasn’t finished.
“Just think about what you’re wearing.”
Saturday morning, I put on a dark blue one-piece swimsuit.
It was comfortable.
That was enough for me.
Daniel walked into the bedroom and stopped.
“You’re not wearing the cover-up?”
“I’ll bring it.”
“You should wear it.”
“Why?”
He hesitated.
Then he said the words I’d been dreading.
“Have you seen Jane in a swimsuit?”
I stared at him.
“What does Jane have to do with me?”
“She looks attractive.”
The room went silent.
“I carried your children,” I said quietly.
“And they’re ten months old.”
“So?”
“You know what I’m saying.”
“Yes,” I replied. “I do.”
I picked up the beach bag.
Daniel shook his head.
“Honestly, I don’t think you should come.”
I turned around.
