“You’re thinking too loudly,” he said.
“Sorry.”
“Your mother used to do that too.”
I smiled despite myself. “What would she say?”
“That depends entirely on whether she was talking to you or talking to Grant.”
I laughed. It felt strange, after everything. But it also felt good.
He stopped beside a bench. “Vivian, I want to say something before you make any decisions.”
“I’m not staying because of Micah.”
“I know.”
“And I’m not leaving because you’re angry at him.”
“I’m not asking you to.”
He looked toward the empty playground. “Marriage is rarely decided by one terrible day,” he said. “But sometimes one terrible day shows you something you’ve been refusing to look at.”
“What do you think I’ve been refusing to see?”
“That’s for you to discover.”
Then he simply started walking again. Even billionaires, apparently, could be maddeningly vague when it suited them.
