My husband forgot the papers he needed for his business trip, so I drove to the airport to bring them to him — I thought I was simply saving his business speech until I got there and saw something I never expected.

Ruth stared at her.

“You knew your son was having another relationship while he was still married to Lauren?”

“I hoped he’d resolve things himself.”

Tucker’s grandfather placed his fork on the table.

“Enough.”

Everyone fell silent.

He looked at Tucker.

“Whatever decisions you made, you need to take responsibility for them.”

Then he turned toward Diane.

“And asking other people to ignore those decisions doesn’t help anyone.”

No one spoke.

I hadn’t come there hoping to humiliate Tucker.

I simply refused to let him present our marriage as something that had ended naturally when the truth was so different.

I left shortly afterward.

The following week, I began the divorce process.

My attorney helped me examine our shared accounts, preserve the financial records, and request a fair division of our marital assets.

We also began reviewing the money Tucker had used during his affair.

Tucker asked whether we could publicly describe the separation as a mutual decision.
