I’d feed one baby, change another, soothe the third, pump, wash bottles, and finally crawl into bed.
Then someone would cry.
I’d look at the clock.
Twenty-eight minutes had passed.
Sometimes I cried while feeding them.
Not because I didn’t love them.
I loved them more than anything.
I cried because I was exhausted beyond words.
Ethan’s “Well-Deserved” Vacation
Six weeks after the triplets came home, Ethan walked into the bedroom holding his phone.
“I need a break.”
I thought he meant an afternoon.
Maybe dinner somewhere.
Maybe a night at a hotel so I could have help.
Instead, he said:
“I booked a vacation.”
I stared at him.
“What?”
“Cabo.”
He said it casually.
“Two weeks.”
I honestly thought he was joking.
“You booked a two-week vacation?”
“Yes.”
“Alone?”
“Obviously.”
I looked at the three bassinets beside the bed.
All three babies were asleep.
For once, the house was quiet.
