It All Started with Kevin Bacon’s Dream of Becoming a ‘Solitary Man’

Long before the farm became the backdrop for viral videos featuring goats, pigs, and impromptu musical performances, Bacon had something much quieter in mind. In April 2025, he told Esquire that he bought the Connecticut farm in 1983, before the fame that followed “Footloose.” His plan was strikingly simple: “A rundown little farmhouse with a tiny little wood stove. That’s where it started.”

Bacon said he had never been to Connecticut before and had never bought a house, but he headed there anyway after ending the relationship he was in at the time. The actor described the fantasy as becoming a kind of “Solitary Man with Dog in a Cold Winter.”

“It was a very romantic, very Robert Frost notion,” he said. “Big wool jacket and long walks. Dead of winter, chopping wood all day long. And really, that’s how I was living except for when I would go off and work.” Decades later, the little farmhouse has become the center of a much richer rural life.

Bacon originally saw the property as a place where he could live simply and spend long stretches away from Hollywood. His vision involved winter walks, chopping wood and embracing a much quieter existence. | Source: Instagram/kyrasedgwickofficial
