“It’s a crowded train!”
Lucas’s smile vanished.
“A report? You said you wouldn’t write anything down.”
“I warned you not to continue,” Curtis replied.
Lucas glanced at the watching passengers.
“Look, it was a misunderstanding. I’m sorry.”
He turned to me.
Lucas’s smile vanished.
“Come on, tell him we’re fine.”
I shook my head.
“We’re not.”
His voice dropped.
“Please. Don’t make this worse.”
I shook my head.

Curtis checked his watch.
“We’re stopping in ten minutes. A few passengers are getting off, so I’ll be able to move one of you.”
“Then move her,” Lucas said.
I turned toward him.
“Why should I give up my seat when you’re the one who caused the problem?”
“Then move her.”
Curtis faced Lucas.
“Sir, you’ll need to move. Please come with me until we reach the next station.”
Lucas stared.
