The Weight of Silence!!!!!!

He sighed with visible irritation. “Plenty of women have babies and get back in shape. I’m not trying to hurt you; I’m just being honest.”

Reclaiming Control

The next morning, I put on my sneakers, strapped my daughter into her stroller, and walked out the door.

It started with short twenty-minute walks around the neighborhood, which slowly stretched into longer routes. When she napped, I added simple home workouts on the living room rug. I started planning balanced meals instead of surviving on light snacks.

The weight moved slowly. Some weeks I lost two pounds; other weeks, the scale didn’t budge at all. Ryan kept track with passive interest.

“How much now?” he asked one weekend.

“Eleven pounds.”

He smiled condescendingly. “See? Wasn’t that hard.”

Around the same time, Ryan began staying late at work. His phone started staying face-down on the table, and he would step into the hallway whenever it rang. At the time, I convinced myself that if I transformed into the woman he wanted, our relationship would heal.

As the months passed, my body strengthened. Walking upstairs stopped leaving me breathless. One morning, I caught my reflection in a shop window and realized something surprising: I wasn’t doing this for Ryan anymore. I was doing it for myself.
