“That’s impossible.”
“No. What’s impossible is believing that a man who has spent years struggling financially suddenly has a legitimate claim to my company.”
Arthur opened another folder.
Several pages contained copies of emails and messages that had been preserved by his legal team.
One message particularly disturbed Claire.
It had been sent by Michael six weeks earlier.
Once the marriage is complete, she can obtain access to the accounts. If Arthur resists, the scandal will make him eager to settle quietly.
Claire stared at the screen.
Arthur watched her carefully.
“Did you know your father intended to involve the company?”
She shook her head.
“He told me we would receive enough money to start over.”
“He didn’t tell you how?”
“No.”
Arthur leaned forward.
