And she walked in.
Maya’s Grand Entrance
Maya looked completely different from the woman I remembered.
She was wearing an expensive sparkling dress.
Her handbag looked like something from a luxury boutique.
Her jewelry caught the light every time she moved.
She looked confident.
Almost proud.
As though she had walked into the room expecting everyone to admire the life she had built.
She approached Adele.
Then she hugged her.
“Sweetheart,” Maya said loudly, “we’re finally together again.”
Adele smiled politely.
Maya continued.
“You have to understand something. Back then, everything was your father’s fault.”
I felt my jaw tighten.
After everything?
She still blamed me.
She had left.
She had chosen another man.
She had disappeared.
And somehow, fifteen years later, I was still the villain in her story.
I looked at Adele.
For a second, I wondered whether she would explode.
Instead, she smiled.
“Mom,” she said calmly, “I’m so happy to see you.”
Maya looked relieved.
Then Adele said something unexpected.
“Come stand in the middle of the room. I have something I’d like to give you.”
Maya hesitated.
“What is it?”
“You’ll see.”
The Box
A few moments later, one of the wedding staff members carried a large box into the room.
Everyone began looking at one another.
There were roughly 150 guests at the wedding.
People had noticed that something unusual was happening.
Maya stood in front of the box.
She looked confused.
“What’s this?” she asked.
Adele smiled.
“It’s a gift.”
Maya’s expression softened.
“A gift?”
“Yes.”
She began removing the lid.
The room became strangely quiet.
I stood at the back, watching.
I had no idea what Adele had planned.
Maya lifted the lid.
Then she looked inside.
Her face changed instantly.
The confidence disappeared.
Her smile vanished.
She became completely pale.
Someone near me gasped.
Another guest covered their mouth.
Maya stepped backward.
“No,” she whispered.
Then louder:
“No… this isn’t possible.”
She looked at Adele.
“What is this?”
Adele didn’t answer immediately.
