Elena frowned.
“My parents’ seats?”
Celeste smiled.
“The photographs will look much nicer this way.”
Elena stared.
“I don’t understand.”
Celeste glanced toward Elena’s parents before calmly replying:
“They look poor.”
The words hung in the air.
Several nearby guests awkwardly looked away.
Others pretended not to hear.
Waiting for Victor
Elena turned toward the one person she believed would immediately correct the situation.
Victor.
Surely he would defend her parents.
Surely he would recognize how hurtful this was.
Instead, he sighed.
“Please don’t make this into a problem.”
Elena felt the room grow strangely quiet.
“My parents have nowhere to sit.”
Victor adjusted his jacket.
“Mom’s thinking about the overall presentation.”
“The overall presentation?”
He nodded.
“It’s our wedding.”
“The photos matter.”
At that moment, something inside Elena changed.
Not dramatically.
Not explosively.
Simply and permanently.
The Power of Respect
Money can purchase many things.
Luxury.
