“Change.”
The following weeks weren’t easy.
Daniel began taking more responsibility for the twins. We started counseling, and for the first time, he listened without immediately defending himself.
One evening, I told him:
“If you want me to believe you’ve changed, don’t tell me. Show me.”
He nodded.
A few weeks later, the anniversary photographs arrived.
I chose the picture of me with Paige and Piper.
My hair was messy.
My face was tired.
My body was different.
But I was smiling.
I framed it and placed it in our living room.
For almost a year, I had deleted photographs of myself because I had learned to see myself through someone else’s criticism.
That picture reminded me who I actually was.
A mother.
A wife.
A woman who had carried two babies and survived a difficult year.
And, finally, someone who understood that my worth was never measured by how attractive I looked in a swimsuit.
