He grabbed his suitcase.
“Don’t overreact while I’m gone.”
I looked at him.
“No worries.”
He left.
I watched through the window as he climbed into a taxi.
The car disappeared.
And for the first time since our babies were born, I felt something unexpected.
Relief.
Not because I wanted him gone.
But because I no longer had to pretend I could depend on him.
Cabo
Ethan arrived at the resort several hours later.
I knew this because he sent a message.
Made it. Finally going to relax.
I didn’t answer.
I spent the afternoon feeding babies, changing diapers, cleaning bottles, and trying to eat something myself.
At four o’clock, my phone rang.
Ethan.
I answered.
His voice exploded through the speaker.
“You actually did this to me?!”
I pulled the phone away from my ear.
“What are you talking about?”
“What did you put in my suitcase?”
I looked at the babies.
