My Dad Charged Me Rent for Years… Then I Discovered What He Had Really Been Doing
I sat in my father’s chair, staring at the contents of the box, unable to understand what I was seeing.
Frank pulled a chair beside me.
“Take your time,” he said quietly.
Inside the box were dozens of envelopes, each marked with a month and a year. Beneath them lay a thick folder, a small velvet pouch, and a handwritten letter with my name on it.
My name.
Written in my father’s familiar handwriting.
I picked up the letter first.
“Son, if you’re reading this, I’m no longer there to explain myself. I know you probably think I was a terrible father. Maybe, in many ways, I was. But there are things you never knew, and I hope you’ll understand why I made some of the choices I did.”
