One afternoon, I returned to the executive dining room.
It was the same room where Celeste had struck me months earlier.
But the atmosphere felt different.
Employees greeted me warmly.
Several people smiled as I walked past.
A young receptionist approached with a tray.
“Would you like some coffee, Ms. Hart?”
I nodded.
“Please.”
She glanced toward the cabinet.
“Do you have a preferred cup?”
I looked at the porcelain cups arranged neatly on the shelf.
Then I smiled.
“Any cup is fine.”
I carried my coffee to a table near the window and sat down.
Sunlight streamed through the glass, illuminating the room where I’d once been publicly humiliated.
I thought about my father and the company he’d created with decades of determination.
I thought about the trust I’d placed in Julian.
And I thought about how much I’d learned by walking into my own business as an ordinary employee.
