Sophie looked at me and smiled.
“You’re pretty good at this wish-granting thing.”
I laughed.
“I think I’m the one who got my wish granted.”
“What wish?”
I looked toward the kitchen.
Rebecca was smiling as she played.
“Getting a second chance.”
Sophie leaned against my shoulder.
“I knew you’d say that.”
And in that moment, I finally understood something.
Sometimes a wish isn’t about giving someone something they’ve never had.
Sometimes it’s about reminding them that they’re still allowed to want something for themselves.
And sometimes the person granting the wish is the one whose life changes forever.
