“Don’t be selfish. She’s your family,” my mother snapped when I refused to hand my half-sister another $2,000.

No commercial permits.

No insurance.

And several unauthorized electrical modifications.

Mom knew.

Emails confirmed the city had warned her twice.

She ignored both warnings.

Two days later, I arrived with my attorney. Kayla waited on the porch, arms crossed.

“You’re seriously trying to evict your own mother?”

“I’m enforcing the lease.”

Mom stepped forward.

“All because I asked you for two thousand dollars?”

“No. Because you threw me out of a property I own while allowing an unauthorized business to operate inside it.”

Kayla laughed.

“You won’t do anything. You always cave.”

My attorney then handed Mom a formal notice requiring her to correct the lease violations.

Thirty days.

Remove the business inventory.

Restore the electrical modifications.

Pay for outstanding utility damage.

End all commercial operations.

Mom examined the documents.

“What happens if I don’t?”
