One by one, he lifted them from their displays and placed them safely against the wall.
Diane stared.
“Levi! What on earth are you doing?”
He turned toward her.
“Fixing my wife’s baby shower.”
The room went completely silent.
Levi moved Diane’s chair away from mine and brought his own beside me.
Then he sat down and took my hand.
He looked toward the guests.
“My mother has given everyone incorrect information. Our son isn’t named Benjamin. We haven’t chosen his name yet.”
He paused.
“And when we do, that decision will belong to his mother and me.”
Diane gave a nervous laugh.
“Oh, Levi. You’re being dramatic. I was only trying to honor your father.”
I finally found my voice.
“Diane, you knew we didn’t want that name.”
She looked at me.
“You’re making far too much of this.”
“No,” I replied. “We told you directly that Benjamin wasn’t an option.”
