Bacteria – All of the above creates a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. And not just any bacteria—the kind that can cause body odor, skin irritation, and even infections.
Fungal growth – The warm, moist environment under your breasts is ideal for yeast and fungal growth. This can lead to rashes, itching, and discomfort.
The visual test: If your bra has dark discoloration under the arms or along the band, that’s accumulated sweat and oil. It’s time to wash it.

Nursing bra After every wear Milk residue + warmth + moisture = bacteria

The Right Way to Wash Bras (Don’t Ruin Them)
Most bras are delicate. Treat them that way.
Hand-Washing (Best Method)
Step 1: Fill a sink or basin with cool or lukewarm water. Add a small amount of gentle detergent (lingerie wash, baby shampoo, or mild soap).
Step 2: Submerge the bra. Swish gently. Do not scrub or twist.
Step 3: Let soak for 10-15 minutes.
Step 4: Rinse thoroughly with cool water until no soap remains.
Step 5: Gently press out excess water. Do not wring or twist.
Step 6: Lay flat on a clean towel. Roll the towel to absorb moisture. Then reshape and lay flat to dry.
Never put bras in the dryer. The heat destroys elastic and shortens the life of your bras dramatically.
Machine-Washing (If You Must)
Use a mesh lingerie bag to protect bras from snagging.
Use the delicate cycle with cold water.
Use a gentle detergent (no fabric softener).
Never put bras in the dryer.
Only machine-wash bras without underwire (underwire can bend and break).
The Detergent Question (What to Use)
Do use: Gentle, fragrance-free detergents designed for delicates (Woolite, Forever New, Soak). Baby shampoo also works well.
