I was seven months pregnant with our first child when my mother-in-law turned my baby shower into a celebration of herself.
She invited forty people, decorated the entire venue with pictures of herself, opened my presents before I could touch them, and repeatedly reminded everyone how wonderful it was that she was finally becoming a grandmother.
I tried to stay quiet.
My own mother had passed away years earlier, and I desperately wanted my son to grow up knowing the grandmother he still had.
