The Morning After Our Wedding, My Husband Told Everyone I Had Lied About Being a Virgin and Walked Out on Me — But Years Later, I Learned His Mother Had Known the Truth All Along
I was nineteen when I married Nathan.
In the small town where we had both grown up, everyone knew everyone else’s business, and people had opinions about things that should never have concerned them. Nathan came from one of the most respected families in town, and his mother, Rebecca, had always made it clear that she expected her son to marry a “proper girl.”
For months before the wedding, she watched me carefully. She asked uncomfortable questions about my past, commented on how I dressed, and once told my mother that Nathan deserved a wife “with nothing to hide.”
I tried not to let it bother me.
Nathan loved me. At least, I believed he did.
On our wedding day, he held my hand in front of everyone and promised that nothing would ever come between us. My parents cried during the ceremony, Nathan smiled throughout the reception, and for a few hours I genuinely believed I was beginning the happiest chapter of my life.
By the following morning, everything had collapsed.
I woke up alone.
Nathan’s clothes were gone from the chair beside the bed, his phone charger had disappeared, and his wedding ring was lying on the dresser.
At first, I thought something had happened.
I called him.
No answer.
Then I heard voices downstairs.
When I walked into the living room, Nathan was standing beside Rebecca. My parents were there too, along with Nathan’s father and two relatives who had stayed overnight after the wedding.
Everyone stopped talking when they saw me.
Nathan wouldn’t look at me.
“What happened?” I asked.
Rebecca folded her arms.
“Tell her.”
Nathan finally raised his eyes.
